Practical tools that will help manage your symptoms
Group therapy is ideal for those referred to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills training by a psychiatrist, a mental health provider, or a hospital. You're probably at a point in your life where you're stable but need tools to stay that way. You want to learn how to manage symptoms of trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, or self-harm thoughts.
You might be struggling with maintaining relationships or keeping a job due to emotional difficulties, or perhaps you're dealing with the aftermath of a childhood developmental trauma. Don't worry — you're not alone.
What to Expect
I understand that you might have concerns about group therapy. Let me assure you, this isn't the kind of group therapy you see on TV where everyone sits in a circle sharing their problems.
This is a class where I teach you skills to navigate life's challenges. We meet weekly for 16 weeks, and most people need to go through the program twice. It's like learning a new language, it takes time to get familiar, but it's worth it. Using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), group therapy aims to provide concrete tools to manage your emotions and cope with your daily life.
Skills You Will Learn
We’ll cover mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. You'll learn to manage your intense emotions, become more present with what's happening, tolerate everyday distress, and effectively ask for what you want or need from others. Over time, you'll become emotionally literate, allowing you to name and respect your emotions without letting them get in the way of your wants or needs.
The Benefits of Virtual Sessions
Our group therapy sessions are held virtually, ensuring everyone can participate, regardless of your location. We'll meet once a week for about 90 minutes. Group size is kept small (no more than eight to ten) so that the sessions remain intimate and everyone gets the attention they deserve.
Results You Can Expect
Group therapy sessions aim to help you stay out of the hospital and build a life worth living. You'll notice improvements in your daily life, such as:
-
Completing tasks that you used to abandon
-
Having healthier relationships
-
Better managing your emotions
The bar is not set low, but at real, tangible progress.
