“I have come to believe that caring for myself is not self-indulgent. Caring for myself is an act of survival.”
Audre Lorde
Let’s start by bunking some myths about self care.
Self-care is not the same as self-indulgence. It is taking care of your well-being, investing in your whole self. Self-care is an inside-out activity that communicates to your mind, body, and soul that you are worthy. It also shows others that you are worthy of care.
Self-care is not selfish. Even though both start with self, they are not the same. It’s necessary. Just like taking your car into the shop for a tune-up – your being needs consistent care to be of use to you and others.
Self-care is not a “one and done,” it needs to be a consistent practice. Don’t wait until you’re burnt out, broken down, and done, take care of yourself on a consistent basis – what can you do daily? What can you do once a week and stick with it?
Self-care doesn’t require a trip to the spa, a vacation, or a huge investment. It is the little things you do consistently that give it the power to restore and refuel your being.
These prompts are for that inside work I mentioned. Take some time each day, (remember, it doesn’t need to be a lot) and look inward and write from the seat of your soul. It’s just the beginning of a beautiful relationship with yourself.
Self-care can be so helpful in managing depression, anxiety, and low self-worth.
If you struggle with self-care, it could be because you don’t feel worthy of care and of feeling good about yourself. This is a deeper issue that I can help you address in session. Give me a call, set up a consultation, do something today to help yourself.
